The Laboratory of Organic Chemistry (LOC) at the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences of ETH
Zurich, Switzerland has two openings at the PhD Student and Postdoctoral Researcher levels in the newly
formed group of Pablo Rivera-Fuentes (http://www.loc.ethz.ch/people/professoren/Rivera-Fuentes_EN).
Highly motivated individuals with background in synthetic organic chemistry and/or molecular biology, and
strong interest in using organic chemistry as a tool to solve problems of biomedical significance are encouraged to apply.
Position: The position offers the opportunity to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment and to lead projects that directly address fundamental questions in biology. All the projects involve rational design and
synthesis of molecular probes, in vitro mechanistic studies, and evaluation in live cells using optical microscopy and molecular biology techniques. Close collaboration with other groups and research centers in the Zurich area offers access to state-of-the-art facilities and world-class expertise in optical microscopy and nanoscopy, as well as genomic and proteomic methods.
Requirements:
- Candidates at the PhD level should hold a Masters degree (or equivalent, including a 4-year BSc degree) in chemistry or biochemistry. A strong background and experience in organic synthesis is required.
- Candidates at the Postdoctoral Researcher level should hold a PhD degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or molecular biology. Experience is organic synthesis and/or molecular biology is required.
- All candidates must be fluent in English. Knowledge of German is an advantage but not a requirement. In addition, applicants should be interested in carrying out highly multidisciplinary research and learn new techniques in chemistry and biology.
- The candidate should be enthusiastic about working in the atmosphere of a newly founded research team.
Applicants should be willing to perform research independently and with the highest scientific and ethical standards. Starting date: October-December 2015
Duration: 3-5 years at the PhD level, 1-2 years at the Postdoctoral Researcher level.
