Abstract:
Cooperative light-matter interaction plays an important role in aspects of correlated spontaneous emissions, quantum entanglement, and preparation of exotic quantum states. This cooperativity results in the long-ranged dipole-dipole interaction between any pair of the atoms. Superradiance, subradiance, and the associated cooperative Lamb shift are examples that demonstrate the collectivity in rescattering photons within an atomic ensemble.
This collective effect emerges in various paradigms of quantum-optical systems. In this talk, I will focus on the cooperative spontaneous emission and subradiant many-body states, entanglement in spectrally shaped biphoton, and using EIT (electromagnetically induced transparency) as a probe for strongly correlated quantum gases. These studies respectively promise potentially robust quantum storage of single photons, alternative long-distance quantum telecommunication, and bridging quantum optics and condensed matter physics.
