Dear Colleagues and Friends:
Prof. Peter S. Kim, an internationally renowned scholar and an eminent scientific leader, is invited by the K.T. Wang Bioorganic Chemistry Foundation and Academia Sinica to visit Taiwan as one of the 2016 K.T. Wang Bioorganic Chemistry Lecturers and will give 2 lectures entitled “Preventing Diseases with Vaccines?” and *Viral Membrane Fusion and its Inhibition” on November 10th (Thursday) and 11th (Friday), respectively. On November 10th, we will also have Dr. Lawrence Gan to give a lecture entitled “Sustiva: Uncovering the Mechanism for the Metabolism-Dependent, Species-Selective Nephrotoxicity?” Lectures on November 10th will be delivered in the International Conference Hall, Humanities and Social Sciences Building, Academia Sinica (http://gis.sinica.edu.tw/asmap/sinica_campus_enmap.png). On November 11th, Dr. Kim’s lecture will be given in the Plato, GIS NTU Convention Center (http://www.meeting.com.tw/index.php/en). The lectures are expected to provide local researchers with invaluable inspiration.
Prof. Peter S. Kim is the Virginia and D.K. Ludwig Professor of Biochemistry at Stanford University and member of Stanford ChEM-H, a new interdisciplinary Institute harnessing Chemistry, Engineering & Medicine to understand and advance Human health. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Lawrence L. Gan is President and CEO of the Development Center for Biotechnology (DCB) in Taipei, Taiwan. Before joining DCB in March 2015, he served as Senior Director at Biogen Idec, Cambridge, MA (07/07-02/15). Dr. Gan also served as Director of Drug Discovery at Boehringer-Ingelheim, Ridgefield, CT (11/05-07/07) and Senior Director at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc., now the Takeda Oncology Co., Cambridge, MA (02/02-11/05). Dr. Gan also served as Director at the DuPont Merck Pharmaceuticals Co., now the Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. (BMS) Wilmington, DE (09/96-02/02), and Principal Investigator at Glaxo Inc., now the GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) (03/89-09/96).
