Title: Materials in Biology: Walking from Hard to Soft

Abstract:
This talk will focus on the interfacing of both hard and soft materials with biosystems. Tailoring the surface monolayers of nanoparticles has been demonstrated to effectively control the behavior of nanoparticles in cellular environments, including stability, cytotoxicity and cellular uptake. Functionalized nanoparticles can be further employed in intracellular delivery and molecular recognition. Also, this presentation will feature the use of photochemistry approach to fine-tune the mechanical properties of polymeric network. These photo-controllable polymers are applied in manipulating the cellular response as well as in 3D printing fabrication.
