Subject: ICL - a cultural exchange program/course (Phys1038/StuAct1008)
Dear international students of NTU,
You are strongly encouraged to join the program ‘ICL’ (International Companions for Learning) for cultural exchange. You may join the program by volunteering or by taking the courses (Phys1038 or StuAct1008; see below for details).
This is a national program funded by Ministry of Education. It provides an opportunity for international students and local students to match with kids from (mostly countryside) schools of all 22 cities in Taiwan, including the islands. The format of the program contains both weekly Skyping and fully-sponsored field trips for meetups at the schools. Each international student will be paired up with a local student who will assist with the preparation, translation, and communication. Two official certificates, one by Ministry of Education and the other by NTU, will be issued to students of sufficient attendance in order to recognize their contribution.
You may join the program by simply volunteering or by taking the courses, depending on your need. Refer to the end of this email for more information about the courses.

---------------- Course Information ----------------------------------
You may join the program by simply volunteering or by taking the courses (please indicate your choice during the registration process at icl.tw). If you would like to take the course, there are two courses for you to choose from:
1. Service Learning-International Companions for Learning
Curriculum Number: Phys1038
This is a two-credit course, optional for all students. If you are a “non-degree” international student (e.g. exchange, visiting) and you never took this course before, this is what you need. If you are an NTU undergraduate “degree” student (local or international) and have taken the course "Service Learning (III) Social Service" (see below), you may optionally take this course. (Note that for NTU degree students, taking any course for a second time will gain you zero extra credit towards the graduation credits.)
2. Service Learning (III) Social Service
Curriculum Number: StuAct1008
This is a zero-credit course, equivalent to the compulsory course “Service Learning (III) 服學三” for NTU undergraduate “degree” students. If you are an undergraduate “degree” student (local or international) and have NOT taken the compulsory "Service Learning (III)", this is what you need. If you are a “non-degree” international student (e.g. exchange, visiting), you should take the other course (Phys1038, see above), unless you have taken that course or you don't need credits.
The above two courses will be operated through the same national system, and the duties will be exactly the same.
