Dear students,
 
I am Yuri KAMON (Ph.D.), in charge of the Center for International Affairs at GSS, Osaka University.

It is our pleasure to inform you our 2025 International Summer Program (ISP) (Program period: July 17 – August 27, 2025).

The ISP is a great opportunity for you to experience research life before you go full-fledged to regular course (SISC and IPC) and DDP at GSS.

This year (2024 ISP), we are very much glad to have a astrophysics physics student from your university.


Notes for the 2025 ISP:
1. The application period is more than a month earlier than the 2024 ISP.

2. The procedure how students who participate without paying tuition fee of the 2025 ISP
The tuition fee will be waived for students who belong to faculties of universities (research institutes) that have concluded inter-departmental agreements with the GSS, Osaka University, and who are sent based on the MOU on Student Exchange.
Since your College of Science and the College of Life Science, and GSS have the MOU on Student Exchange, we would like to select students to participate in the 2025 ISP without tuition fees, following the process below.
Thank you very much for your kind understanding and cooperation.

1st step: Students apply individually via the online application form. (Dec. 23, 2024 to Jan. 20, 2025)

2nd step: GSS will select the prospective students for the 2025 ISP.

3rd step: GSS will notice the selection result to the applicants individually. At the time, GSS also will notify everyone who received this email with the following documents attached if there are selected students from College of Science and the College of Life Science of your university. (around at the end of March 2025)
1. List of selected students for participation.
2. Rank of selected students by GSS
3. Max. number of tuition waivers based on MOU (around as of the end of March 2025).

4th step: If there are less selected students than Max. number of tuition waivers, please confirm whether all students can participate as tuition waivers or not.
If not, kindly decide up to what rank of students are allowed to participate as tuition waivers and advise us by email.
If there are more selected students than Max. number of tuition waivers, kindly decide how many students are allowed to participate without paying tuition fee referring to the ranking and advise us.

3. Scholarship from Osaka University
The scholarship is available for a few students from Osaka University. Please visit 2025 ISP website for more details.

- Abstract of the ISP
The ISP at the Graduate School of Science (GSS) is an intensive research internship for overseas students majoring in natural sciences and related fields in sciences.
This program will provide students with an opportunity to acquire an experience of research-based studies in assigned research groups of the GSS.
For the students who are interested in enrolling in the GSS international graduate programs, particularly, the ISP program is a good opportunity to experience research life prior to enrollment.
Also, a limited number of participants will receive scholarships.

Thematic studies will be conducted under close supervision by the host professors through experiments, discussions, and group work among the team members at the GSS.
This program will be a platform for students to train their ability for research in the future.
In addition to an opportunity for a leading research work experience in science, the program includes social and cultural activities to promote a better understanding of the Japanese culture and build good relationships with students at Osaka University.

At the end of the program, the students are requested to make oral presentations about their achievements in the program.
Participants who successfully completed the program will be awarded a certificate from the GSS.

- Eligibility
The international summer program is designed for undergraduate or graduate students who have a sensibility and intellectual curiosity about natural sciences and related fields in sciences
(mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, macromolecular science, and earth and space science).
Applicants must be enrolled in Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree program in universities outside of Japan during the program period.
Students who will progress from Bachelor to Master course, or graduate from Bachelor or Master courses during the program are not eligible to apply.

Application period opens: 1 pm on December 23, 2024
Application deadline: 1 pm on January 20, 2025
Notification of results: End of March to end of April 2025
VISA Arrangement: Late April – June 2025
Arrival in Osaka: July 16, 2025
Program period: July 17 – August 27, 2025
Final presentation & Farewell (*): August 27, 2025
Departure from Osaka: August 28, 2025
Submission of Assignments: September 3, 2025
*The date of final presentation and farewell is subject to change.
