The newly formed Anti-Viral Discovery Performance Unit (AV DPU) at GlaxoSmithKline RTP (Research Triangle Park, NC) site have 2-3 internship openings in August, 2012. Our focus is the discovery of broad spectrum anti-virals in therapeutic areas with unmet medical needs. One area with particular interest to us is the discovery of nucleotide inhibitors as anti-virals. Candidates with strong synthetic chemistry background in their final 2 years of Ph.D. programs (not post-doc) are welcome to apply for the positions. During one year of internship training, the selected candidates will be working with a group of scientists and have the opportunity to learn medicinal chemistry and gain industrial experience in pharmaceutical settings.
