Abstract:
This talk covers two of our working directions: trapped ion quantum simulation and superradiance. In the first part, we discuss the implementation of an Ising magnet emulator and the associated quantum phases. Such a system allows us to witness the (scaling of) quantum phase transition in experiments for the first time. We also show that some frustrated interactions lead to an unusual scaling of closeup of the energy gap so that a sharp phase transition can be observed even with a small system. The second part discusses superradiance in cold molecules. We investigate the superradiant curves when multiple degenerate levels are considered. A good example for such a system is the low-lying quasi-harmonic vibration of polar molecules. We then propose a prospect of laser cooling based on superradiance physics.
